Pasted text from Word, emails, or websites almost always arrives with the wrong characters. This script runs eight targeted GREP replacements and reports how many it fixed.

What it does

• Converts straight quotes to curly (smart) quotes — single and double
• Fixes apostrophes in contractions
• Replaces spaced hyphens and double hyphens with em dashes
• Collapses double spaces to single
• Removes trailing whitespace before paragraph ends
• Works on selected text or the whole document
• Reports total replacements made after each run

How to use

1. 1Optional: select a text frame or story to scope the fixes to that area
2. 2Run the script from your InDesign Scripts panel
3. 3The script processes all eight fixes in sequence
4. 4A brief report confirms how many replacements were made
