Smart Title Case on Selection

Converts selected text to proper title case — articles, prepositions, and conjunctions stay lowercase unless they open the title. Works on a word, a headline, or a full frame.

InDesign's built-in Change Case just capitalises everything. This one knows that 'a', 'the', 'of', 'and', and similar words should stay lowercase.

What it does

  • Capitalises principal words per standard English title case rules
  • Keeps articles (a, an, the), prepositions, and conjunctions lowercase
  • Always capitalises the first and last word of the selection
  • Works on any selection: a word, a line, a headline, or a full text frame
  • Non-destructive — applies only to the current selection

How to use

  1. 1Select the text you want to convert — a word, line, or full frame
  2. 2Run the script from your InDesign Scripts panel
  3. 3Selected text is converted to proper title case in place
